Sustaining Trust

Basic Faith or really Basic Trust

  1. Nothing happens to me that doesn’t go through God’s hand first
  2. Everything has a purpose
  3. That purpose is always eternal

Faith comes from knowing and believing something in God’s word.

Trust is built on:

  1. Knowing the one being trusted
  2. Knowing their intent towards us
  3. Knowing their character

I can boost your faith to make great steps by getting the word into you and you’ll take great steps

But without trust that faith will dissipate quickly.

~~We distrust people or things that we have not proven

~~We distrust people or things that have harmed us or have a reputation of harming others

~~We distrust people that are biased

Distrust (dictionary) to regard with doubt or suspicion

Do you believe these things about God?

  • He will never leave or forsake you
  • He works all things for your good
  • He loves you more than you can comprehend
  • He has a plan for your life and is working it right now
  • He views you as His child and wants heaven’s best for you

  • Look what happened to the children of Israel all because they didn’t trust God

Deuteronomy 1:26-32 NAS 26 "Yet you were not willing to go up, but rebelled against the command of the Lord your God; 27 and you grumbled in your tents and said, 'Because the Lord hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us. 28 'Where can we go up? Our brethren have made our hearts melt, saying, "The people are bigger and taller than we; the cities are large and fortified to heaven. And besides, we saw the sons of the Anakim there."' 29 "Then I said to you, 'Do not be shocked, nor fear them. 30 'The Lord your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf, just as He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, 31 and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way which you have walked until you came to this place.' 32 "But for all this, you did not trust the Lord your God

  • Psalms 37:1-5 NAS 1 Do not fret because of evildoers, be not envious toward wrongdoers. 2 For they will wither quickly like the grass and fade like the green herb. 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it.

There is a difference between TRUST & FAITH

  • FAITH: Someone can believe in the result of a scripture and get the miracle described as a result of the faith without knowing how or why it happened
  • TRUST: But to trust in someone of something it takes a knowledge of them, their character and their intent towards us.
  • FAITH says, “I believe that truth of God or that scripture and it moves me to forward action.”
  • TRUST says, I believe God’s intent towards me and so I will not run but hold on through anything
  • Faith says, I believe in healing and will receive it by faith without any manifestation.
  • Trust says, No matter what happens I will trust God and never let go

Proverbs 3:5 NAS Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

  • Trust requires that you trust beyond your understanding
    • It will take lots of trust to not vacate God during times of attack & growth

We will distrust God when we only know Him by:

  • What we’ve heard in church
  • Religious rules & traditions
  • Unbiblical expectations

You can't know His character or trust Him until you clearly see Him and how He is

The fruit of trust is faith, joy & peace
