Keeping Vision Alive Through Faith

Vision dims when faith is diminishes.

Logic fueled by fear or desire is usually the faith robbing element in every faith situation.

Kris Vallotton: People often disguise their fear as wisdom when they enter into a supernatural mission that can only be accomplished with the help of God.

Things God says and does is foolish to the natural mind.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:25a NAS Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men
    • Foolishness (Greek) Moros: stupid, heedless, blockhead, absurd
    • We get the word moron from moros
  • 1 Corinthians 2:14 AMP But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.

David takes a census of the people

  • This made natural sense to see how big your army was to compare it to your enemy’s.
    • 1 Chronicles 21:1 NAS Then Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel.
  • David did this because he had stopped being diligent in his life.
    • 1 Chronicles 20:1 NAS Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led out the army and ravaged the land of the sons of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

Gideon did very foolish things by faith to win

Judges 6:33 NAS Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east assembled themselves; and they crossed over and camped in the valley of Jezreel.

Judges 7:2-7 NAS 2 The Lord said to Gideon, "The people who are with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hands, for Israel would become boastful, saying, 'My own power has delivered me.' 3 "Now therefore come, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, 'Whoever is afraid and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead.'" So 22,000 people returned, but 10,000 remained.

4 Then the Lord said to Gideon, "The people are still too many; bring them down to the water and I will test them for you there. Therefore it shall be that he of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go." 5 So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, "You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink." 6 Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled to drink water. 7 The Lord said to Gideon, "I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give the Midianites into your hands; so let all the other people go, each man to his home."

This absurd approach to following God is why I have established my core beliefs

Pastor Bob’s Core beliefs:

  • God is 100% real
  • The bible is true whether I understand it or not
  • God is more powerful than anything
  • God is watching over me to protect and guide me
  • God has an amazing plan for my life
  • God wants me to success in that plan more than I know
  • My failure never negates God’s intent towards me
  • God has given to me everything I need to fulfill His plan

Bethel has their core values:

I’ve done the stupidest things according to man’s wisdom.

No school. No cable system. No girl until God sends her.

People build their lives on the most absurd rules and wonder why they fall apart in the day of testing.

What is your step of faith?

Hebrews 11:32-40 NAS 32 And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; 36 and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated 38 (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground.

39 And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.

FAITHfulness is how the Father tests us for more

  • Acts 26: 19 AMP I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision
