2 Peter 1:1-4 ESV 1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

First, every promise is already bought and given

2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

  • Secondly, just like everything from God we have to receive them by faith.
    • So, we find a promise that applies to us and we first receive it by faith.
      • Then we go through the process of evaluation examining things to see why it hasn’t manifested

What are some bible promises?

  • Prosperity, demon free, peace, healing, Holy Spirit, joy, victory

What has God promised you?

  • Ministry, a job, football, singing, spouse,
  • All promises are conditional to our choices and subjectional to going through the process

God’s promises always seem impossible at first.

Here’s the list of things to evaluate when a promise hasn’t manifested.

2 Peter 1:1-8 ESV 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue (moral excellence) with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness (patience, endurance) with godliness, 7 and godliness (like God or pure) with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing (in abundance), they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Obedience opens the promises

  • We believe that disobedience is only disobeying commands that we are aware of.
    • Disobedience is also not doing something that we are unaware of.
      • Hosea 4:6 NAS My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
    • Disobedience is also not doing something offensive that will increase God in our lives.
      • Matthew 6:33 NAS seek first His kingdom
      • Is seek first a suggestion or command?
    • Forward movement or offensive things are NOT an option
      • Romans 14:23 NKJV whatever is not from faith is sin

When we don’t have all of these it’s because we choose not to have them.

  • 2 Peter 1:9 ESV For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

Having the qualifying list of things worked in us is actually preparing us for the kingdom.

  • 2 Peter 1:10-11 ESV 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Steps to obtaining a promise:

  1. Find and claim a promise
  2. Receive it by faith
  3. Seek to see if there’s something whether offensive or defensive that you need to do.
  4. Don’t put God on your timetable

God told me that He just needs us to grab ahold of something tightly enough that we won’t let go while He’s shaving things off and putting thing into us.
