Developing Personal Relationship With God

  1. You have the potential of living a life with no purpose.

    1. We will all stand before God one day.

    2. What you have done in life will be tested by fire.

1 Corinthians 3:9-15 9 For we are God’s coworkers. You are God’s field, God’s building. 10 According to God’s grace that was given to me, I have laid a foundation as a skilled master builder, and another builds on it. But each one must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no one can lay any other foundation than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on that foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13 each one’s work will become obvious, for the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire; the fire will test the quality of each one’s work. 14 If anyone’s work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, it will be lost, but he will be saved; yet it will be like an escape through fire.

  1. We Fulfill Living a Life With Purpose Through Developing a Relationship With God.

    1. Here is what Paul said about the core value He lived by.

Philippians 3:7-8, 10  7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ… 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection…

    1. Here is the core value that Jesus lived by.

Matthew 22:37-40 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

  1. What Keeps Us From Walking In Relationship?

  1. We love God but we aren’t IN love with God.

    1. Most of the church flows their relationship with God through their pastor.

    2. Our relationship with God is similar to that of a famous person we enjoy.

    3. We do outward actions FOR love instead of FROM love.

  1. We misunderstand love. Love is:

    1. I am committing to personally know you deeply

    2. I am no longer my own.  I don’t want to just do what I want to do.

  2. We do not pursue further revelation.

    1. We can’t just live by what we remember.  We must have God revealed to be in a relationship.

    2. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks syndrome.

  3. We don’t feel like doing it.

    1. Love is more than a feeling.

    2. Think about an actual relationship.

    3. You will hunger for what you feed on.

  4. We get caught up in religion.

    1. Mr. Religion rules our lives

    2. He exhausts us.

    3. He is God the Father not the godfather.

  1. What are some simple things we can do every day to walk in relationship?

  1. Spend time with Him on purpose. Schedule time to spend with God.

  2. Talk to Him like you do a normal person.

  3. We love Him because He first loved us.

1 John 4:19 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

  1. Get in the Word.  Jesus is perfect theology.

  2. Get fresh revelation every day.  The river of revelation flows from the lake of intimacy.

  3. Listen to sermons every day.
