Powerful Pursuit

Why Powerful Pursuit?

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control"

What is Powerful Pursuit?

  • Powerful Pursuit is a consistent, ever-growing, intentional, relational, pursuit of who God is and who He says you are.
  • Powerful Pursuit is when your pursuit of God is based on your conscious choice and not on your feelings or the pushing of others.

What Does it Mean to be Powerful?

  • A Powerful Person is a person who is governed by the world within them, not the world around them.
  • When we allow the world around us to dictate how we feel, we become slaves to our circumstances.
  • Anytime our sense of “power” comes from others, we are actually powerless.
  • You cannot have unconditional love until you become powerful.

Common Excuses Not Pursue God:

An excuse is often something that we use to shift responsibility from us to our circumstances.

  1. I don’t have time.
  2. I already know it.
  3. It’s boring.
  4. There is no hope.
  5. I’ve gone too far.
  6. Something to do with how God views you.

7 Tips to Becoming a Powerful Pursuer of God

  1. Establish purpose and vision for your pursuit.
  2. Become disciplined.
    1. "Discipline is embracing the necessary consequences to get to where you want to go."
    2. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
  3. Remember that you are in a committed relationship.
  4. Don’t be ruled by your desires, manage them.
    1. Galatians 5:16 ESV "But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."
  5. Never give up.
  6. Never allow external circumstances to pull you from your pursuit of God.
  7. Determine, and then surrender to, God’s truth.
    1. Mark 10:29-31 ESV "Jesus said, 'Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.'"
    2. James 1:12-16 NKJV "Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren."
