As we walk into the Holy Place we will encounter the following:

6.  Tent of Meeting

  1. Linen of the finest quality
  2. Goat’s hair covering
  3. Ram skin covering dyed red
  4. Badger, porpoise, or sea cow skin covering.
    1. The Hebrew word tahash is very difficult to translate. Most scholars agree that it refers to the skin of some kind of aquatic animal. As the outer layer, the leather skin protected the Tabernacle tent from rain or morning dew.

We are a type of the tent with it various coverings.

  • We must have the various items of the Holy Place and Holy of Holies inside of us meticulously cared for just like the priests did in the tabernacle.
    • If we don’t maintain the presence of the Lord we invite other forces to take residence.
      • Matthew 12:43-45 AMP 43 But when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, it roams through dry [arid] places in search of rest, but it does not find any. 44 Then it says, I will go back to my house from which I came out. And when it arrives, it finds the place unoccupied, swept, put in order, and decorated. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and make their home there. And the last condition of that man becomes worse than the first. So also shall it be with this wicked generation.

7.  The Holy Place

  • There was constant maintaining of the items in the Holy Place
    • This speaks of the vigilant maintaining of our lives in Christ

8.  The Golden Lampstand

  • The lampstand was a solid, one-piece object of gold
  • It was made of one talent (75 pounds) of gold.
    • At today’s gold prices, $1215 per oz the lampstand would cost almost 1.5 million dollars.
  • The gold lampstand was shaped as a central shaft with six branches coming from the sides, three on each side. Each branch held a cup in the shape of an almond flower soon to bloom. Each cup had an oil lamp. It was a piece of art. Although some translations use the expression candlestick, the lampstand did not use wax for fuel. Rather, the lamps used as fuel clear, high-quality olive oil that the Israelites brought as offerings to the Tabernacle (Leviticus 24: 2). The priests had to keep the light of the lamps burning continually, probably during both days and nights
  • John 9:5 "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
  • John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
  • Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
  • Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
  • Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden
  • 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
  • Parable of the 10 virgins – Keep our lamps full of oil

9.  The Table of Showbread

The table of shewbread was referred to as the table of the Presence.

  • One of the types of this table is of Jesus
    • John 6:35 NAS Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
  • Another type is communion
    • There were 12 baked cakes of bread on the table
      • The 12 baked cakes of bread spoke of Gods people
        • Gods light (from the Golden Lampstand) forever shines on His people.
  • We are to maintain Jesus in our lives on a daily basis
    • Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

10. Alter of Incense

The LORD required that special incense be burned constantly on the altar of incense.

  • It was a special sweet incense, a mixture of spices to be used only for the Tabernacle.
    • God specifically required this recipe.
    • This was to be done twice a day

  • Hebrews 13:15 NAS Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.
  • Revelations 5:8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
  • Acts 6:4 "but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word."
  • 2 Corinthians 2:14 NAS But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

11. The veil between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies

Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Matthew 27:51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.

12. Most Holy Place or Holy of Holies

The Tabernacle must have been a great mystery for people. Even priests did not know everything about this holy tent. A place where only one man, once a year, entered; where God’s powerful presence was visible; where the high priest brought blood and incense to do a ritual of atonement for the sins of the all the people; the Tabernacle was a place of wonder.

13. Ark of the Covenant

  • The purpose of the Tabernacle was to house the Ark
    • The Ark was a 2 ½ x 1½ cubit rectangular wooden chest with its lid being the Mercy Seat with the Cherubim of glory facing one another with wings outstretched.
    • The Ark was overlaid with pure gold and had a gold crown.
    • Inside the ark were 3 things.
    • 1. The 2 tables of the Law, 2. A golden pot of manna and 3. Aaron's rod that budded.

John 1:14-15 NAS And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

14. Mercy Seat

Hebrews 9:11-12 NAS 11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

15. Cloud and Pillar of Fire

John 10:4 NAS When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.
