Description

In our day we have nothing to base what our Christian life off of.

We use Hollywood, religion and secular thinking to create what we expect of God.

After we give our lives to God and that fantasy life doesn’t happen we think somethings wrong

We become displeased with our lives as we compare them to the fantasy life and we become discouraged and give up

Here’s what Christianity looks like to some:

  • I’ll have to stop doing things that I want to do
  • I’ll have to do thing that I don’t want to do.
  • I’ll have to stop doing things that I don’t have the self-control to stop
  • I’ll have to listen to that bible stuff that I completely don’t understand.
  • God is going to solve all my problems now.

Here is a list of what has affected how we believe our life in God should be:

  • American dream
  • TV love stories
  • What we see of other’s lives
  • Movies where the girl falls for our belching self as we sit in a chair and give orders
  • What we hope will happen
  • Our comforts
  • Jesus rescuing me out of my problems
  • Contemporary dead religion

Berni Dymet-As prosperity boomed in the West, our expectations of what is normal became incredibly inflated. Prosperity is normal! Peace is normal! Success is normal! And of course, the advertising industry chimed in: Feeding us, bombarding us constantly with those images of success.

Jeremiah 14:14 NAS Then the Lord said to me, "The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility and the deception of their own minds.

God tells us:

Jeremiah 29:11 NAS For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

  • Plans (Hebrew) a contrivance, i.e. (concretely) a texture or machine
    • con·triv·ance (kənˈtrīvəns): a thing that is created skillfully and inventively to serve a particular purpose.

And: Romans 8:31 NAS What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

Plus: 2 Corinthians 2:14a NAS But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ

But: This does not mean we know how He is going to produce all of this in and through us

In summation: God will produce a life through us that will be far, far more than we could by ourselves.

  • To get there we will encounter some crazy hard stuff though.

Things you’ll have to push past:

  • Fear, including intimidation
  • Self-will, including pride
  • Lusts or getting what we want
  • Unloving, fleshly actions
  • Ignorance of God’s ways

Here’s the #1 thing we need to know when we turn our lives over to God:

  • Trust that where you are and what is taking place in your life is happening as a plan of your Father.
    • That is unless you’re in open sin, where you’ve allowed the enemy legal access to you
      • If you’ll repent of your sin your Father will use that in your growth also.

As we believe God is at work in us:

  • What reference do you use to decide that you aren’t supposed to be in your present situation or circumstances?
    • When we use uncomfortable circumstances as a determining factor for us to get out of our current situation we often miss what God is trying to use to get something into or out of you.

At a time I questioned God because of my uncomfortable outward circumstances…

  • God told me He wasn’t as concerned about my outward circumstances or situation as He was my character and control of my flesh.

This is how most jump out of God’s preparation and ultimately out of His plan for our lives

Here are our references to leave things:

  • People don’t like me
  • I’m uncomfortable
  • I’m bored
  • I don’t understand
  • I can make more money somewhere else

The way to God’s awesome life is:

  1. Turn your life completely over to God and HIS ways
  2. Ask for and receive His forgiveness for any disobedience and sin.
  3. Learn God’s ways and let them renew your mind to the life He promised you.
  4. Go through what it takes to get free from the residue of your past life without God
    1. That includes those sitting in church but not hungrily seeking God
  5. Strive to make every decision according to God’s word and His ways
    1. When you see that you didn’t repeat these steps.

There’s a spiritual age where natural drive ends and decisive drive begins

  • This is maturity

Someone has said, "The church is not a grocery store where the elders keep shelves full to keep the people happy." Ern Baxter comments: The subnormal understanding of the nature of church has in many instances caused it to deteriorate into a kind of religious social club where many people feel a freedom to come and go as they please. This practice is not entirely valid because, when widespread, it turns the church of God into little more than a lecture hall where people come, in essence, to hear ideas preached.

  1. Here is what you can expect if you allow God to have complete control of your life:
  • You’ll love people like you’ve never imagined
  • You’ll be way more confident
  • Your relationships will be awesome
  • You’ll be able to control your emotions
  • You’ll have peace that will never leave
  • You’ll watch your life have enormous purpose and mean something
