Description

Problem areas exist in any growing person, relationship or organization.

  • The ability to solve the problems is the key to growth and freedom.
    • Dysfunction rarely fixes itself.

Dysfunction (Dictionary):

  • abnormal or unhealthy interpersonal behavior or interaction within a group
  • the state of being unable to function in a normal way
  • impaired or abnormal functioning

Growth provides freedom and maturity and must take place or you die

  • Growth doesn’t happen without detailed & persistent attention to it.
  • Watch Jesus go through a growth cycle

Luke 3:21-22 & 4:1-15 NAS 21 Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry. 3 And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." 4 And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'man shall not live on bread alone.'"

5 And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 "Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours." 8 Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'you shall worship the lord your god and serve him only.'" 9 And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; 10 for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you,' 11 and, 'on their hands they will bear You up, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.'" 12 and Jesus answered and said to him, "it is said, 'you shall not put the lord your god to the test.'" 13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. 14 And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. 15 And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.

Growth cycles consist of:

  1. Problem recognized.
    1. This will cause us to cry out for change.
    2. Even if the problem isn’t specified or located it is still manifesting.
    3. Often the problem is denied or pushed off as being someone else’s fault.
      1. As God’s children He will not allow us to exist in bondage.
  2. Infilling for strength.
    1. This is a result of crying out in prayer.
  3. Confrontation of weakness.
    1. We are thrown into the very thing that we are weak in.
  4. Resistance to weakness.
    1. This produces strength.
  5. Full power manifestation
    1. This is the new level achieved through the growth process

This same process happened to the Children of Israel coming out of Egypt

  1. They recognized the slavery through ill treatment.
  2. They cried out to the Lord
  3. They we confronted by weakness produced from idol worship and complacency.
  4. Their resistance was given through the law and the fear of the Lord.
  5. They manifested by defeating every enemy in their promise land.

Why problems aren’t faced:

  1. Denial of existence of a problem
  2. Ignorance of an answer
  3. Pain of dealing with a situation
  4. Fear of dealing with a situation

Denial is a coping mechanism that gives you time to adjust to distressing situations.

  • Staying in denial can interfere with treatment or your ability to tackle challenges.
  • If you're in denial, you're trying to protect yourself by refusing to accept the truth about something that's happening in your life.
  • Refusing to acknowledge that something is wrong is a way of coping with emotional conflict, stress, painful thoughts, threatening information and anxiety.
  • You can be in denial about anything that makes you feel vulnerable or threatens your sense of control, such as an illness, addiction, financial problems or relationship conflicts.

Denial has these primary manifestations:

  1. Anger to repel
  2. Crying or over emotionalism
    1. Both are used to repel
  3. Reclusion
    1. This can easily lead to depression
