Developing a Value for Knowledge

Proverbs 10:14a NAS Wise men store up knowledge

Proverbs 18:15 ESV An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

Hosea 4:6a NAS My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest.

Ephesians 4:11-13 NAS 11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Colossians 1:9-10 NAS 9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God

The kingdom of God is a hidden kingdom

Knowledge of it is gotten by the following ways:

  1. Experiential
    • Experiential knowledge happens in one of two ways
  2. We learn by gathering information and store it in our memory
    • We are then presented with a situation where what we learned needs to be applied
    • We apply the knowledge and solidify it in our hearts now seeing it with full understanding
  3. We experience a situation that challenges us
    • We begin looking for the knowledge of how to handle that situation
    • We apply the knowledge and solidify it in our hearts now seeing it with full understanding
  4. Revelation
    • Revelation knowledge is received by persistently pursuing information until the truth of it is illuminated by the Holy Spirit

Proverbs 1:7 NAS The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

2 Peter 3:17-18 NAS 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

If there was a puzzle or some kind of a contest where you had to answer questions that either got you millions of dollars or cost you your life or something very valuable to you what extent would you go through to get the information needed to be successful in the competition?

What keeps us from pursing knowledge?

  1. Believes that current knowledge is sufficient
  2. We don’t know that we lack knowledge because we’ve never had an instance to need it
  3. We don’t want to dig through non-valuable information to get the valuable.

Religion removes the ability to unlock hidden God knowledge.

  • Luke 11:52 AMP Woe to you, lawyers (experts in the Mosaic Law)! For you have taken away the key to knowledge; you did not go in yourselves, and you hindered and prevented those who were entering.
    • Notice the key is taken away
      • Keys unlock doors
    • Religion boxes us in by its nonexpanding and unquestionable doctrines

What we don't know can and probably will hurt us.

How do we put or how do I put the proper emphasis on the value of understanding and knowing the things of God?

There is a Time Factor where I believe a hindrance comes into our mind that says,! I can't spend all day learning about God so it can't be that important!

Romans 10:2-4 NAS 2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. 3 For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
