Description

John 3:1-7 NKJV 1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." 3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." 4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

We are not born again by a prayer but by a supernatural birth

  • This requires the seed of the Holy Spirit to enter us and go through gestation producing in us a born again spirit.
  • 1 Peter 1:23 AMP You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.
    • Mark 4:14 NAS The sower sows the word.

In John 3:7 “You must be” signifies that WE play the primary in being born again.

  • Our part is what we allow to happen to the seed
  1. Sown beside the road: they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.
  2. Sown on the rocky places: they hear the word & receive it with joy;  but have no firm root so when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away.
  3. Sown among the thorns: the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
  4. Sown on the good soil: hear the word and accept it and bear fruit.

This external desire to serve God will result in one of two ways:

  1. You will be turned into the next religious white washed wall, twice the son of hell
  2. You will not last long in your attempt

$$ cannot serve 2 masters

You cannot overcome without being born again

  • 1 John 5:4 NAS For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith.

Until you’re born again you have no power over sin

  • 1 John 3:9-10 NAS 9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

Because you will not be able to see spiritual things

  • John 3:11-12 NKJV 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.  12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

Seeing spiritual things gives you a goal or vision that gives you purpose

Because we’re told to seek the kingdom first and you can’t see the kingdom

We then have to view a spiritual kingdom from an earthly view.

James 1:8 KJV A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

  • James 1:8 AMP [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].

AMPI believe that the falling away in the bible is those who give up a perceived invaluable kingdom for what makes sense.

This is literally how people will believe the false prophet and wonder after the antichrist.

We’ve tried to constrain non-regenerate people by condemnation, fear & preaching laxity.

  • When someone is born again they are constrained by their born again spirit
  • 1 John 5:18 AMP We know [absolutely] that anyone born of God does not [deliberately and knowingly] practice committing sin, but the One Who was begotten of God carefully watches over and protects him [Christ's divine presence within him preserves him against the evil], and the wicked one does not lay hold (get a grip) on him or touch [him].
